Brief Biography

Lynn Webster, MD is a clinician and researcher, with expertise in pain management and pain mechanisms, substance abuse and addiction, and politics and medicine. He is a leading researcher in exploring the relationship between medications and sleep, with a particular focus on analgesic-induced sleep-disordered breathing. Dr. Webster earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska (1976). He was the co-founder and served as the Medical Director for Lifetree Clinical Research (2000-2010). Dr. Webster is a former President of American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) and Chief Medical Officer of PainScript. He serves as Executive Vice President of Scientific Affairs, Dr. Vince Clinical Research, Overland Park, KS.

Dr. Webster has been investigator or co-investigator for more than 350 clinical trials since 2003 and has authored more than 300 publications. Developer of the Opioid Risk Tool, he lectures extensively about preventing opioid abuse and criminal diversion in chronic pain patients and has made more than 370 presentations. He is an editor for Pain Medicine and Journal of Opioid Management and has been a regular columnist for the Hill, Pain Medicine News, and Pain News Network.

He has been published by NBC News, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Toledo Blade, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Salt Lake Tribune, and more. Dr. Webster has been interviewed for TV broadcasts, radio shows, podcasts, and publications from coast to coast including NPR, Fox News, Healio, LiveStrong, Boston Herald, Reason, and more.

Dr. Webster is the author of an award winning book, The Painful Truth. Dr. Webster is the recipient of several awards including the Distinguished Service Award by the Utah Medical Association (2006), Physicians Dedicated to Relieving Pain by AAPM (2010), and Presidential Excellence Award for Education by AAPM (2012). He also received first place in the Silver Pen Writing Contest for a personal story titled, “A Story I Never Told” (2019).
